Birkirkara Smart Office Supplies are the sole leaders in the Mixed Team League following their easy win over Shuttles Fort Blocks. Despite playing without Samuel Cali injured, and with Aldo Polidano and Stephen Ferrante not hundred per cent fit, Birkirkara found little difficulty in emerging winners 5-0. Young Matthew Galea made a winning debut for Smart Office Supplies.
Aldo and Marica Micallef found little difficulty beating M. Briffa/G. Saliba 21-8, 21-14 in the Mixed Doubles to win the first point for their team.
Matthew then played G. Camilleri in the Men’s Singles, which turned out to be the only hard-fought game. Perhaps because of excitement on his part, Matthew lost the first set 21-18; but then made a comeback winning the next two sets to increase the lead for Birkirkara. He won the second set 21-18 and then went on to win the deciding third 21-15.
Fiorella Sadowski, fresh from her Nationals triumph, won her Ladies Singles match 21-4, 21-4 against G. Vella Incorvaia.
With the final points won Aldo and Stephen then beat C. Spiteri/S. Spiteri 21-14, 21-18 in the Men’s Doubles.
Fiorella and Marica rounded up Birkirkara Smart Office Supplies’ win when they beat Saliba/Vella Incorvaia 21-13, 21-7 in the Ladies Doubles.
This win puts Smart Office Supplies 2 points clear of Paola BC and 4 points clear of Birkirkara’s other team – Go & Fun. The title will be decided with the direct encounters between these three teams.
