B’Kara Smart Office Supplies  kicked off  the defense of their Mixed Team Championship title with a 5-0 win against new club Luxol Nestle Fitness, the latter fielding several ex-teammates.

Unfortunately, in this first encounter the team had to do without Stephen Ferrante and Marica Micallef, who were both unavailable for the match due to family reason.  Daniella Galea and Yanika Polidano were lined up for the Ladies Double and Ladies Singles respectively. Fielding with BBC for the first time was Rostislav Peniska, who played in the Men’s Singles and Doubles with Aldo Polidano.  Fiorella Marie Sadowski was set to play in the Mixed and Ladies Doubles with Aldo Polidano and Daniella Galea respectively.

Due to the limited time available for the match, both Captains of the two teams agreed to play the Mixed Doubles, ladies and Men’s Singles simultaneously on three courts. Rostislav Peniska, as expected, beat Luxol’s Kyle Sciberras. Kyle tried his very best to gain as much ground as possible against Rostislav who however was always in control. Kyle eventually had to succumb to Rostislav with an entertaining score line of 21/14, 21/17.

Yanika Polidano went on to easily win her singles game  against Lisa Formosa, with a score of 21/3, 21/3. Coincidentally, both players were making their debut in the Seniors Mixed Teams league.

Aldo and Fiorella took a bit longer than expected to settle down in the mixed doubles against the experienced Robert Salomone and Catherine Dimech. Our players finally won a nervous first set 24/22.  Then they went on to show their form in the second set when their opponents seemed to be tiring out, to finally win the game 21/8.

Having already won the Match with the three previous victories, the remaining two games, the Men’s and Women’s doubles were just a formality.

Aldo teamed with Rostislav, easily dictated the sets against the Salomone brothers Robert and Ivan, with a 21/8, 21/13 win. The Salomone brothers did their utmost to win the game, but it was to no avail.

Fiorella partnered with Daniella Galea, played against two of Luxol’s junior players, Jahel Briffa and Stephanie Meilak.  As the score suggests, their opponents gave little resistance and our players ran out easy winners with a score line of 21/3, 21/6 ending BBC Smart Office Supplies first encounter for this season with a clean card, winning the match 5-0.
