All four players representing our club in Division 2 figured in drawn matches when playing against each other. These results left Albert in second place and Ivan in third.
In the first match of the evening Fiorella Sadowski played Ivan Salomone. Holding the upper hand throughout, Ivan won the first set 21-15. Fiorella started the second set with a flourish, taking a substantial lead. Ivan came from behind to try to cut down the arrears but could not overtake his clubmate; thus Fiorella won 21-14.
Albert Bezzina held the upper hand to win the first set against clubmate Arif Rochman 21-14. However Arif’s determination in the second set helped him to win 21-11, thus gaining a merited point.
Next Fiorella played Arif in a very balanced match. Arif won the first set 21-18, but then lost the second 21-19. As the score shows, it was a close match throughout.
Albert and Ivan played a draw match – the first going to Ivan 21-15, the second to Albert 21-18. With this lost point Albert lost the chance to go joint top in the table.
The lone Birkirkara representative in this division – young Yanika Polidano – won both her matches against Paola opponents to go second in the table, one point behind the leader.
In her first match she played Gordon Pace (until then one point above her in the table) and won 21-16, 21-18. During this match she gifted her opponent with several points due to some unforced errors. This made thge going tougher.
In the second match she played calmer and, although the score was close, she emerged a merited winner 21-17, 21-17.
