End of Doubles League: Birkirkara 1-2 in Divisions 1 and 3

The Individual Doubles League organised by Badminton Malta came to an end with Birkirkara players winning first and second place in Divisions 1 and 3 Aldo Polidano/Stefan Salomone won division 1 with maximum points with clubmates Samuel Cali/Stephen Ferrante runners-up. Division 3 was won by Yanis Boju/Daniel Abdilla with maximum points with clubmates Jesmond Galea/Matthew Galea in second place. Marica Micallef/Katerina Vella Ryabkova came third in division 2.

Div. 1

In their final match Samuel/Stephen beat M. Abela/K. Vella of Paola to secure the runner-up position. Final score: 21-13, 21-15.

Albert Bezzina/Ivan Salomone drew their final match against Shuttles pair G. Camilleri/C. Spiteri winning the first set 21-13, but losing the second 21-15.

Likewise Martin Farrugia/Arif Rochman drew their match against Msida pair N. Degaetano/K. Sciberras. After winning the first set 21-18, they lost the second 21-17.

Div. 2

Despite losing both their matches played Marica’Katerina finished third. They lost the first match against the eventual winners – Paola’s G. Grech/E. Abela – 21-12, 21-11. They also lost the second match against Paola opposition – J. Cassar/J. Grech Licari – 21-16, 21-19.

Div. 3

Daniel Abdilla/Yanis Boju won their final match to win the division with maximum points. They beat E. Gatt/N. Spiteri of Shuttles 21-15, 21-12.

Father-and-son pair Jesmond and Matthew also won their final match to secure second placing. They beat Shuttles pair A. Zammit/R. Zammit 21-14, 21-16.

Div. 4

Birkirkara pair Olga Galea Fedotkina/Daniella Galea drew their final match with Paola pair M. Ellul/M. Vella. they lost the first set 21-12 but recovered to win the second 21-15.

Besides congratulating the winners Birkirkara Badminton Club would like to thank all its players and coaches for the success achieved and the dedication shown during training.

After the Christmas break competitions resume with the Individual Singles League in January, followed by the Mixed Team League. Good Luck!
