Junior Nationals Update

Another year has almost come to an end, and the Club’s Committee would like to congratulate all our juniors players who in the past edition of the Junior Nationals have succeeded in winning and in developing furthermore their badminton game.

We start off by congratulating all our club participants who didn’t manage to win in their respective age category. Everyone wins by never giving up, by persisting and by keeping on fighting to reach one’s goals and objectives.

Starting from the Girls Under 11 Singles, we congratulate Sarah Gauci Azzopardi for becoming the youngest Junior National Champion. Martha Perici Ferrante and Thea Blake placed runner-up in the Girls Under 13 Doubles event, with the same Perici Ferrante clinching the 3rd place in the U13 Singles event together with Alisha Gauci Azzopardi.

In the Girls U15 Singles event two of our promising girls, Sarah Azzopardi and Ksenija Simic clinched the runner-up and 3rd spot respectively, while in the U15 Ladies Doubles event it was an all B’Kara affair when the Azzopardi siblings (Lauren and Sarah) had the upper hand of the Simic twins (Christina and Ksenija).

With regards the U17 age group, our girls managed to dominate. Yanika Polidano together with Michaela Ellul had the better hand of all their opponents and became the new U17 Girls Doubles National Champions, meanwhile in the Singles event, Yanika Polidano clinched the runner-up place, losing in a battling three setter match against her opponent, while our Michaela Ellul and Michela Gatt clinched both the 3rd place.

Finally, in the Under 19 age category, we saw our Nigel DeGaetano ensuring the runner-up spot after a battled final. DeGaetano then teamed up with Matthew Abela to win the U19 Boys Doubles event, while our other pair, formed up by Zack Cilia and Luigi Grech clinched the third place. In the Mixed Doubles event, two of our pairs Yanika Polidano/Nigel DeGaetano & Michaela Ellul/Zack Cilia acclaimed the runner-up and 3rd place respectively. Finally, in the Girls Singles event Yanika Polidano and Michaela Ellul ensured the runner-up and 3rd spots respectively, and afterwards teamed up and also won the Under 19 Girls Doubles category after having the upper hand on Michela Gatt & Ann Marie Bezzina in the final, and thus affirming their dominance in the Doubles category.
