During the month of August, our junior players, together with their coaches (some of which accompanied by relatives), attended a training camp in Kilmarnock, Scotland, as organized by Badminton Malta’s Junior National Academy. This training camp was in collaboration with Hurlford Badminton Club.
During this one week camp, our players, namely Yanika Polidano, Daniella Galea, Zack Cilia and Matthew Galea, had the opportunity to join in the training with other Scottish players and coaches, both on and off court. Some of the activities included physical training on a Scottish beach and a weight training/conditioning session with Mr Charles Hamilton, who is Scotland’s and Uk’s National Coach. This included a session about healthy eating for athletes.
As from their side, the coaches – Stephen Ferrante and Aldo Polidano – also had a session with Ms Michelle Pollock – a physiotherapist – who explained what kind of first aid should be given to an injured athlete.
This week in Scotland, offered our players, not only the opportunity to play outside their mother country and explore other cultures, but also to socialize and increase their friendship bond. They also learnt how to respect each other, both on and off court, while having great fun together.
