When the National Junior Championships were held this month there was a marked improvement on participation and results from the club’s juniors. The fact that more juniors from our nursery took part this year is a good sign, although we wish to see more juniors participating. Also, compared to last year, positive results were obtained by those representing Birkirkara.
The best result was obtained by Matthew Galea who was crowned Champion of the U13 Singles category. Matthew has been playing badminton for over four years and this win is the result of hard work and training (with the junior and senior sections of the club and with the BM Academy). Whilst congratulating him we remind him that further improvement and successes depend on sacrifices and hard training.
Matthew also came 3rd in the Mixed U13 category together with Yanika Polidano, 3rd in the U16 Singles, 3rd in the U16 Doubles together with Luigi Grech, and 3rd in the U19 Doubles together with Zack Cilia.
Luigi Grech, besides obtaining third place in the U16 Doubles, came 3rd in the U16 Mixed partnered by his sister Clarissa and also 3rd in the U19 Mixed category partnered by Daniella Galea.
Yanika Polidano came 3rd in the U13 Singles, 2nd in the U13 Doubles (together with Rebecca Spiteri).
Clarissa Grech, as mentioned above, came 3rd in the U16 Mixed.
Daniella Galea came 3rd in the U19 Singles and 2nd in the U19 Doubles, partnered Atlanta Cochrane.
All this would not have been possible if not for the hard work done by the coaches of the club’s Nursery, namely Stephen Ferrante, Ivan Salomone and Aldo Polidano.
Congratulations and Well Done to the participants and Heartfelt Thanks to the coaches.
