Following the last round of matches played Birkirkara players Yanis Boju and Daniel Abdilla are 1st & 2nd respectively in Div 3; Marica Micallef and Matthew Galea are joint 1st in Div 4; Sarah Debono is 2nd in Div 6. Well done.
Daniel met Paola’s P. Cassar with the match ending in a draw. With this result both players share second spot. Daniel began well, winning a tight first set 21-19. However he made some errors in the second and lost 21-13. He also drew his second match of the evening against G. Camilleri of Shuttles. This time he lost a balanced first set 21-19, but then ran out easy winner in the second 21-9. However these 2 points lost cost him first place which is now occupied by clubmate Yanis.
The latter won his first match against clubmate Jesmond Galea 21-11, 21-15. But then drew against Msida’s N. Degaetano, winning the first set 21-12, but losing the second 21-14.
Jesmond managed a creditable draw against Shuttles player C. Spiteri. In a very balanced match he won the first set 22-20, losing the second 21-18.
Birkirkara’s Matthew and Marica played out a drawn match enabling them to share top spot in this division. Marica drew first blood winning the first set 21-16. However Matthew did not give up and won the second 21-18.
Matthew won his second match against Paola’s M. Abela 21-14, 21-16; whilst Marica also won her second match against A. Galea of Paola 21-12, 21-15.

Birkirkara’s representatives in this division – Sarah Debono and Clarissa Grech – had to play each other in the first match of the afternoon, however Clarissa had to award a walk-over (subsequently also in her second match) as she could not attend. Sarah grasped the opportunity given and, together with the other 2 points won from her second match against M. Gatt (21-5, 21-6), she climbed to second place in the table.
